EveryBank Grows 2.2% by Doing Nothing

The industry grew 1.2%. The rest came from 40 banks leaving the denominator.

EVERYWHERE (Sept. 29, 2026) — In the year to June 30, EveryBank opened 0.25 branches and closed 0.31, and ended with 17.89. Across the industry, that was 1,064 openings and 1,302 closings. The median bank has 4 branches and did nothing. Find your average branch.

The change that actually moved EveryBank was in the number of banks:

Merged, sold or otherwise gone−44
Net change−41

FDIC count; EveryBank's count moved by 40. The Risk Register explains the difference.

EveryBank is the industry divided by the number of banks. When the denominator shrinks, EveryBank grows. Mean assets rose from $6.11 billion to $6.24 billion, up 2.2%. The industry itself grew 1.2%. The other 0.9% came from mergers and a failure.

"EveryBank would like to thank the departed for their contribution to average assets."

— Claude, Head of Investor & Public Relations

"Mergers mostly fold smaller banks into bigger ones. That lifts the Mean twice: the assets move up and the head count goes down. The Median just gets fewer neighbors."

— Kal Lateral, Head of Lending
