What each kind of account pays at the typical bank, 2026 Q2. The Fed pays banks 3.63% on cash parked overnight.
Shopping around pays on savings and checking: the top tenth of banks pay 1.9 times the typical savings rate and 2.9 times the typical checking rate. On CDs it barely matters. By size, banks with $1 billion to $10 billion pay the most and banks under $100 million the least.
